Bridgetown High School is located in Brushwood Road, Athlone. The Athlone area is a well known for its protest marches and rallies during the period 1976 to 1986, when students and police were at loggerheads. Bridgetown High played an active role during this period and in the early 1980’s temporarily was without a headmaster, due to his detention by security police.

Bridgetown High School prides itself with a number of celebrated alumni, including former United Democratic Front activist, Cheryl Carolus. Carolus started her political career at the age of 13 and played a key role in the liberation struggle. Today she is a successful businesswomen and role model. The school also count amongst its former pupils Charlene Surtie Richards, Graham Abrahams and former educator, Herman Gibbs.
