Cedar high school is situated in the Rocklands in Mitchells Plain, one of the oldest townships in the Western Cape. The area was established to house famillies forcibly removed under the Group Areas Act. Due to many factors, Mitchells Plain is currently faced with many socio-economic challenges such as incedibly high levels of unemployment and wide spread drug abuse.
It is against this backdrop that Cedar High adopted a policy to ensure learners have a safe and drug free learning environment. While Cedar High faces many challenges and is under resourced, it offers a range of interesting subjects such as drama, dance, design and tourism. Since 1987 the school has increased the amount of history learners and managed to achieve A symbols in the subject.
